Most sunscreens still rely on chemical filters like oxybenzone, octinoxate, and avobenzone — ingredients increasingly linked to hormone disruption, skin sensitivity, and the bleaching of coral reefs. This formula uses non-nano mineral filters — zinc oxide and titanium dioxide — that physically reflect UV rays the moment they're applied. What's the difference between this and the tinted version?+
Same protective formula, two different finishes. This untinted version is best if you wear foundation (no shade conflict), prefer a no-colour formula, or want the cleanest possible ingredient list. Our tinted version is best for going makeup-free on the face, since the natural tint blends in and helps eliminate the slight residue mineral sunscreens can leave. Many customers keep one of each — tinted for the face, untinted for the body.
Will it leave a white cast?+
Like any untinted mineral sunscreen, there's the potential for a slight initial residue right after application — but it blends in clean with proper massage and absorbs within a minute or two. Fair-to-medium skin tones see minimal cast. For deeper skin tones, our tinted version may be a better choice, as the warm tint counteracts mineral residue more effectively.
Is it actually reef-safe?+
Yes. Reef-safe means free from oxybenzone, octinoxate, and other chemical filters that contribute to coral bleaching — and using non-nano particle size so the minerals can't be ingested by marine life. This formula meets the reef-protection standards required in Hawaii, Mexico's Riviera Maya, Palau, and other regulated destinations.
Can I use it under makeup?+
Yes — that's one of the main reasons people choose the untinted version. Apply after moisturiser, let it absorb for a minute, then apply foundation as normal. Because there's no tint, it won't shift the colour of your makeup.
Is it safe for babies and kids?+
The formula is mineral-based and free from chemical filters, fragrance, parabens, and common irritants — generally considered the safest sunscreen category for children. For babies under 6 months, paediatricians typically recommend keeping out of direct sun rather than using any sunscreen. For older babies and children, do a small patch test first.
